One of the most interesting and most important lessons from the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic has sadly still not been learned.
This is the fact that during the 1918 flu epidemic, various forms of alternative healthcare achieved much higher success rates than medical science.
During that epidemic, patients treated by convention allopathic or chemical-based medicine had a mortality rate of between 30 percent and 40 percent. In the case of one hospital in New York, the mortality rate was as high as 68 percent.
In sharp contrast, patients treated with osteopathy and chiropractic experienced a mortality rate of less than 0.25 percent! This is all the more surprising considering the fact that both osteopathy and chiropractic are forms of manipulation therapy, more commonly applied to treat body aches and pains, rather than infectious diseases.
Homeopathic medicine for Spanish flu victims was also highly successful, with only about 1 percent mortality.
Despite the glaring contrast in success rates chemical-based medicine and more natural forms of healthcaree, chemical-based medicine has been so so effective in its public relations campaign that it remains the medicine of choice for almost everybody.
Do we need another failure of chemical-based medicine in the current swine flu outbreak before more people wake up to its ineffectiveness and its dangers?
Was the Spanish flu really the flu?
Meanwhile, questions are being asked as to whether the 1918 flu epidemic was, in fact, a form of flu? The flu virus was first identified only during in 1933. So no one can say for sure if the 1918 edipemic was really a flu epidemic. There are reasons, instead, to believe that it could have been a reaction to vaccination.
In 1911, vaccinations were made compulsory for US Army troops and the death rate from typhoid vaccination rose to the highest point in the history of the US Army. Henry L Stimson, the US US Secretary of War, reported that seven men dropped dead after being vaccinated. He also reported 63 deaths and 28,585 cases of hepatitis as a direct result of yellow fever vaccination during only six months of WW1.
Unfortunately, these deaths did not result in vaccinations being stopped. Instead, more powerful vaccines were given to US troops. And so, in 1917, 19,608 men suffering from anti-typhoid vaccinations were admitted into army hospitals. The Irish
Examiner reported at that time: When army doctors tried to suppress the symptoms of typhoid with a stronger vaccine, it caused a worse form of typhoid paratyphoid. But when they concocted an even stronger vaccine to suppress that one, they created an even worse disease - Spanish flu.

Another study from Patricia Brennan, Ph.D., leading a team of researchers, conducted a study that found improved immune response in her test subjects following chiropractic treatment. The study specifically demonstrated the “phagocytic respiratory burst of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and monocytes were enhanced in adults that had been adjusted by chiropractors.” [4] [4]. My note: Any person that can walk out of a chiropractic office, after an adjustment and not feel the surge of vital life energy return, and not think that is beneficial to the immune system, has never had a real adjustment, nor investigated what is done. I have some of the worst spinal degeneration, you can get for my age; from prior accidents, and just my life time condition in general, and I can still feel that. The immune system superiority of those under chiropractic care did not appear to diminish with age. Dr. Pero stated “When applied in a clinical framework, I have never seen a group other than this chiropractic group to experience a 200% increase over the normal patients. This is why it is so dramatically important. We have never seen such a positive improvement in a group.”
The immune system is affected by the nervous system through the connections with the endocrine and the autonomic nervous system. And chiropractic care improves the function of the nervous system through improving the movement of the spinal bones that encase and protect the spinal cord. Stressful conditions lead to altered measures of immune function, and altered susceptibility to a variety of diseases.

The Lancet Slammed by Medical Veritas Editors: Vaccine Science Poisoned by Special Interests in PharmaMedia
The editors of Medical Veritas journal have condemned The Lancet's retraction of the controversial study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, charging editor Richard Horton with pandering to special interests in a conspiracy to defraud the public about the risks of vaccinations.
In 1998, The Lancet published the contested study linking autism and intestinal problems to the risky MMR triple virus vaccine. Yesterday, following the British General Medical Council's decision that Dr. Wakefield had been "dishonest," The Lancet's editor retracted the article saying the Council's report made it "utterly clear, without any ambiguity at all, that the statements in the paper were utterly false."
In a letter to the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Gilbert Ross, medical director of the pro-vaccine industry American Council on Science and Health, wrote, "The retraction . . . comes far too late. Even now, Horton fails to accept responsibility for the human toll he engendered by publishing the Wakefield 'study.'. . ."
"On the contrary," wrote Dr. Leonard Horowitz, Editor-in-Chief of Medical Veritas. "Dr. Horton's delay is best explained by his aversion to self incrimination and conspiring to cover-up iatrogenocide--the medical mass murder of innocent people for profit."
The Winter, 2010 issue of Medical Veritas, evidenced gross conflicting interests undermining the The Lancet's integrity. Following the publication of Dr. Wakefield's controversial study, Reed-Elsevier-ChoicePoint mergers occurred. The mega-company formed has nearly monopolized the medical scientific publishing industry. Previous to this, The Lancet editors protested the "damaging" of medicine and health science by pharmaceutical companies.
"Now it is obvious Dr. Horton's company has been grossly contaminated by special interests as biased as Dr. Ross's 'PharmaCouncil'," Dr. Horowitz said.
Reed-Elsevier-ChoicePoint, it turns out, is directed by Chief Executive Officer, Sir Crispin Davis, according to a Reuter's News Service promotion for GlaxoSmithKline recently published. According to Forbes, Sir Davis was knighted by the Queen of England for his "service to the information industry." He has served as a Non-Executive Independent Director of GlaxoSmithKline, PLC since 2003. Sir Davis spent his early career with Procter & Gamble.
Reuter's News Service, key to the British "information industry," is directed by Editor-in-Chief, Thomas H. Glocer, who serves on the Board of Directors of Merck & Co., which admittedly paid Reed-Elsevier to publish pseudo-scientific articles and fraudulent medical journals, including the Australasian Journal of Bone and Joint Medicine. According to court records, and the New York Times, the Merck-sponsored publication for doctors in Australia came to light during litigation over Vioxx--a pain medication that caused, conservatively, more than 27,785 deaths according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Lancet editor blamed the FDA for faulty oversight for the VIOXX killings, but failed to cite his own parent company's complicity in the iatrogenocide. Dr. Horton wrote, "Without more vigilant drug regulation in the future, doctors will continue to be misled and patients' lives will continue to be endangered. "
So with zero confidence in The Lancet, Dr. Horton, those paying his salary, and those criticizing him for his actions, Medical Veritas editors are inviting Dr. Wakefield to re-publish his controversial paper in their next issue.
"Many of our editors have experienced slander and demeaning remarks by mainstream healthcare authorities and the media, Dr. Gary S. Goldman, the Associate Editor of Medical Veritas, wrote to Dr. Wakefield. "Your numerous peer-reviewed journal articles testify to your valuable contribution to the medical and health fields, and your stand against the opponents to scientific reason and common sense is heroic."
Medical Veritas, wherein Dr. Wakefield published a 2006 follow-up study to his 1998 report in The Lancet, is "one of the few remaining journals that places emphasis on the health interests of individuals rather than pursue profits."
"The current climate of vaccine science is very controversial," said Eileen Dannemann. In recent months, the Director of the National Coalition of Organized Women collected and analyzed data of spontaneous abortions following injections of H1N1 vaccines into pregnant women.
"The information that people are given by vaccine authorities, and through the media," Dannemann insists, "is inconsistent with the safety studies conducted that lack placebo controls and long-term surveillance of adverse reactions to these vaccinations."
Contrary to the PharmaMedia's propaganda character-assassinating Dr. Wakefield, he is not the only scientist concerned about vaccinations causing deadly side effects. In recent days, a new study from The Center for Modeling Optimal Outcomes in New Jersey published, "If it hadn't been for so many parents insisting that vaccines were responsible for the condition [of autism], we might never have found the fact that the stabilizer in MMR, and a few other vaccines, is hydrolyzed gelatin--a substance that is approximately 21% glycine. It appears that, based on readily verifiable science, the use of that form of glycine triggers an imbalance between the amino acid neurotransmitters responsible for the absorption rate of certain classes of cells throughout the body. It is that wide-spread disruption that apparently results in the systemic problems that encompass the mind and the body characterized in today's 'classic' autism."

A medical journal in Britain has retracted a controversial study it published in 1998 that linked the use of a vaccine in children to autism.
A medical journal in Britain has retracted a controversial study it published in 1998 that linked the use of a vaccine in children to autism.
The study retracted on Tuesday looked at 12 children suffering from colitis, a gastrointestinal disease.
British surgeon and medical researcher Andrew Wakefield concluded a component of the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine caused the colitis, which in turn led to development problems that are part of autism spectrum disorder.
"It has become clear that several elements of the 1998 paper by Wakefield ? are incorrect," The Lancet said in a statement.
Since the controversial paper was published, British parents abandoned the vaccine, leading to a resurgence of measles in the U.K. and elsewhere in Europe.
Subsequent studies have found no proof that the vaccine is connected to autism, though some parents are still wary of the shot. In March 2004, the majority of co-authors on the paper retracted their support for the claims of a possible link between the vaccine and colitis or autism.
'Callous disregard'
A disciplinary panel of Britain's General Medical Council ruled last week that Wakefield had presented his research in an "irresponsible and dishonest" way and shown a "callous disregard" for the suffering of the children he studied.
It also ruled he had brought the medical profession "into disrepute."
Wakefield and the two colleagues who have not renounced the study face being stripped of their right to practise medicine in Britain.
For the study, Wakefield took blood samples from children at his son's birthday party, paying them five pounds each ($8) for their contributions and later joking about the incident.
Meanwhile, fallout from the publication of the study continues.
"It was out there for a very long time. So it's good The Lancet has retracted it. It helps in a small way. But the truth of the matter is the damage has been done," in terms of changes in belief and perception, said Dr. Allison McGeer, an infectious diseases expert at Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital.
Costs of retraction delay
The retraction is important, but the time it has taken to get to this point dulls its impact, said Dr. Evdokia Anagnostou, a clinician scientist at Bloorview Research Institute in Toronto.
"There is room to study the link between the immune system and autism," she added. "Still, I don't think we have clarified that issue, and I would hope that the money goes towards that route and not again on the MMR hypothesis."
It took a lot of time and effort to debunk the hypothesis, agreed Dr. Bonnie Henry, chair of the Canadian Coalition of Immunization Awareness and Promotion.
"If the amount of money and time and effort had been put into understanding autism, they might have made a lot more gains," in understanding the mechanisms behind the disorder, how to prevent it, and better integrate children with autism into society, Henry said from Ottawa.
Mumps outbreaks
The medical publishing industry has made strides to ensure trials are registered properly, people are reviewed appropriately and that conflicts of interest are prominent so people can make up their own minds in controversial areas, Henry added.
Concerns about the MMR vaccine spread to Europe and North America.
In 2007, a large outbreak of mumps was set off in the Maritimes after the virus was imported from the United Kingdom, said Dr. Noni MacDonald, a pediatric infectious diseases expert at Dalhousie University in Halifax.
More than 1,000 cases were recorded over a period of months as that outbreak spread across the country.
Wakefield remains outspoken and said last week that the panel's findings were "unjust and unfounded." His supporters believe he has been the subject of a conspiracy to discredit him.

He found the measles virus in the lymphoid tissue in the guts of autistic children during endoscopies, which were obviously not performed at a birthday party.

I met Dr Wakefield around 1999/2000, where we both lectured at an autism conference. He heard my info, that autism is due to demyelination caused by anti-measles antibodies; in fact, autism is actually subacute sclerosing panencephalitis caused by the measles vaccine; they changed the name to autism to hide this fact. Had he joined with me and joined his info with mine 10 years ago, the attack on him would have fallen apart.
Dr Wakefield has had more attention in the autism community because he was able to get this now retracted article published in a medical journal; my work will never be published in a mainstream journal as it addresses the true cause of autism. Measles virus is not just in the gut lymph tissue, it is in the brain, where it causes vaccine induced encephalitis. The anti measles antibody created against the measles virus causes demyelination as it attacks the myelin sheath, since myelin basic protein is very similar to measles virus. Note that the MMR vaccine has NEVER had thimerosol (mercury) in it; so it is very interesting that many "mercury causes autism" disinfo groups are backing him.
As the few real doctors (those with a conscience) are picked off one by one, eventually all that will be left will be the MD's (medical devils). In fact, I am working on what will be my first book on how medical devils are created, sharing some of the things I experienced in medical school and residency, which will hopefully be done by the end of this month. Sleep deprivation and rewarding of bad acts are at the root of it, and it is getting worse every year. If young doctors see that no good deed goes unpunished (and that patients allow good doctors to be destroyed), they will all learn to lick the boots of their medical mafia masters, just as Wakefield's cowardly co-authors did.
