My recent study (Radiation from Medical Procedures, 699 pages) provides the first powerful evidence that the U.S. population's accumulated exposure to medical x-rays is a necessary co-actor in causing over half the deaths from cancer, and over half the deaths also from ischemic (coronary) heart disease. Since the study's publication in November 1999, no one has shown that it overestimates the impact of x-rays in causing cancer and coronary heart disease. Some people say "it must be an overestimate," but they have never shown how. Some of the critics have never even looked at the study.

Highlights of our research in cancer chemoprevention include the first demonstration that Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in cancer cells [1-3] NSAIDs alter the cell cycle of colonocytes; their effect on the cell cycle machinery has been mapped extensively, e.g. [4-6] The effect of NSAIDs can be independent of an effect on cyclooxygenase. This “unconventional” finding has now been amply confirmed by many investigators and has helped greatly expand our understanding of the mechanisms of chemoprevention [7]
Nitric Oxide-donating NSAIDs prevent cancer. For example, we have demonstrated the profound chemopreventive effect of
NO-donating aspirin on colon and pancreatic carcinogenesis. (reviewed in [8]), they culminated to an NIH-funded clinical trial of NO-donating aspirin for the prevention of colon cancer.
Current work involves three broad areas: mechanistic studies; drug discovery and dvelopment;nanoscience-based approaches to cancer control. Each area is described briefly below.
The general mechanisms of action of anticancer agents with particular emphasis on redox regulation. For example, we have
Suggested a mechanism of action of chemopreventive agents against cancer based on the induction of oxidative stress [9,10]
Initiated studies of the underlying mechanism focused on the thioredoxin system [11]
Development of novel anticancer agents. This work, e.g. [12,13], includes the detailed preclinical evaluation of novel agents, such as structure-activity studies cell signaling identification of molecular targets efficacy in animal models pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluation formal assessment of drug synergy mechanism-based optimization of drug efficacy.
Besides small molecules, we are currently assessing anticancer peptides invented in our laboratory.
Development of nanoscience-based approaches to cancer prevention. In collaboration with our colleagues in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, we have developed nanoparticles with a strong anticancer effect nanosensors based on surface molecular imprinting for the rapid detection of protein biomarkers both in vivo and in vitro, and a novel drug delivery system.

My note, on the above: In other words, they appear to be saying, they are trying to synthesis anticancer peptides and so called anti-cancer nanoparticles, that already exist in raw foods, such as broccolli and cauliflower, etc.! Trying to synthesis Gods foods that have been here since time began.
