How will it even protect a 9 year old girl, when the clinical trials only know of antibody titers to last so far just 5 years, some lasted as little as 2.5 years. Statins Given to Prevent Pneumonia in Elderly Actually Increase Pneumonia Risk by 61 Percent

NaturalNews) Published reports say that between 11 million to 30 million Americans are taking the supposedly wonder drugs called statins. These cholesterol lowering medications brought in over $34 billion in sales last year and have raked in a quarter of a trillion dollars since they were introduced two decades ago, according to a report published by Forbes last fall. But this market is apparently not big enough to satisfy Big Pharma. The drugs, which are sold under familiar names like Lipitor, Vitorin, Zocor, Zetia, Crestor and others, are beginning to be pushed for reasons other than lowering cholesterol -- including the alleged prevention of pneumonia.
If this use of the drug doesn't seem to make sense to you, you aren't alone. In fact, giving statins to elderly people to prevent pneumonia increases the risk they will get the disease.
What they found was disturbing: pneumonia risk was 26 percent higher in people using a statin than in those not on the drug.
What's more, the extra risk soared up to 61 percent for severe pneumonia that landed people in the hospital.

The American Medical Association, not surprisingly, came to the rescue. A study called "Jupiter" was presented at an AMA conference last Sunday. It was funded by Crestor maker Astrazeneca, and it claims that statin drugs save lives when given to healthy people who show no signs of high cholesterol!
Physicians and Big Pharma reps were practically falling over each other Sunday in a mad stampede to the stage in order to out-do each other on making the most outrageous claims surrounding statin drugs. One doctor said the drugs are so useful at saving lives that governments around the world should start prescribing them to practically everyone. Another said that tens of millions of adults should now be put on what he called "statin therapy." (It's therapy now, folks, not medicine!) Not to be outdone, a third doctor suggested the drugs be dripped into the public water supply in order to dose everyone!
(Fluoridation isn't enough, it seems. Now they want to drip drugs into the water supply. Don't they realize the water supply is already contaminated with pharmaceuticals?)
The AMA convention was so heated with the proclamations of the pharmaceutical faithful that an uninformed onlooker might have mistaken it for a Southern Baptist Revival event. Except it wasn't faith in God that was being praised here; it was faith in chemicals to conquer nature and dominate human biology.
The new position of the pharmaceutical industry, you see, is that the human body is born deficient in pharmaceuticals. Human biology must now be "corrected" with "therapeutic doses" of these patented chemicals.
Oh, and don't forget to leave your wallet at the door, too, because these drugs aren't free. $10 billion for yet more pharmaceuticals shoved down your throat. (Excerpts) July 28, 2008 -- The same drugs that protect against heart attacks and strokes by lowering cholesterol may also protect against age-related memory loss and dementia.
In a study that included about 1,700 elderly people, those who took cholesterol-lowering statin drugs were about half as likely to develop dementia over five years of follow-up as those who did not.
The findings do not prove that statins protect against age-related mental decline, but they are compelling enough to justify primary prevention studies that might prove the association, researchers say.
Of the 1,674 participants, 27% (452) took statins at any time during the study. Over five years of observation, 130 developed either dementia or cognitive impairment without dementia.

Haan's study is not the first to suggest that statins protect older people against memory loss and other types of mental decline, but it is one of the first to follow patients who began the study with no evidence of such decline.
The trial included Mexican-Americans living in Sacramento, Calif., who were participants in a larger, ongoing study examining whether risk factors for heart disease affect the development of age-related memory and thinking problems.
None of the participants chosen for the analysis had been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease at enrollment.

Read the complete article on how they contrived the numbers, and did a second study; in full knowledge that the issue was in the public spotlight about memory loss from these drugs; claiming it was only anecdotal. As to beating this current swine H1N1 flu.
Antibiotics destroy balanced good and bad bacteria in the gut. The immune system is dependant on proper digestion and healthy function of the gut. It is known that such as proton pump inhibitors such as Prilosec cause increased and significant risk of pneumonia.

Code Red: FDA Approves Dangerous Blood Thinner
Again I have to wonder who the FDA is protecting...because it certainly isn't us.
Late Friday, the FDA announced that they were approving a new drug -- Effient, Eli Lilly's new blood thinner -- even though this drug comes with extremely dangerous and potentially deadly risks.
The drug is so dangerous that the FDA has technically approved it only for specific patients, people getting angioplasty. Here's the catch: In the study the approval was based on, patients taking Effient faced "a greater risk of significant, sometimes fatal bleeding" when compared to Plavix, a top-selling blood thinner. On top of that, patients who'd already had strokes faced a higher risk of suffering another stroke if they took Effient.
Are the risks worth it? Nope. Not at all. Because while Effient slightly reduced the risk of non-fatal heart attacks, the number of deaths was "similar" with both drugs. So Effient doesn't really work better, and it increases your risk of repeat stroke and fatal bleeding.
The only possible explanations for this approval: Insanity. Stupidity. Money. (I'm betting on the third.)
Bottom line: If you're heading for angioplasty, make sure the doctor doesn't use Effient.
